So many reports on this busy day under dreary skies that didn't stop birds coming through or present for awhile. Depending on your pursuits, here is my summary.
The top bird no doubt is American Bittern. First a report from Sylvan Water in Greenwood might be the same bird found high perched in a tree at Prospects Elephant Hill, the Ravines east flank. From the upward path at Three Arches Bridge ;the Bittern quite a way up.
Secondly, Wilson's Snipe is another good one . One was found along the sputh shore east of Prospect Lake 3 Sisters islands; then another found sitting in a muddy patch on the ballfields at West sector Long Meadow.
Speaking of the south lake shore, Spotted Sandpiper landed here and dipped its way around.
Meanwhile on the lake , a dozen or so Green winged Teals graced the lake.
Reports came through of a number of Blue headed vireos in both Prospect and Greenwood. Prospect continues to harbor Orange crowned warbler in the woods between the Vale Cashmere and Rose Garden, a few Louisiana Water thrushes, I presumed at Lily pool and the Ravine. On the latter Louisiana also was found at Sylvan Water in Greenwood.
Rusty Blackbird stays put in the Lower Pool in prospect. A new first of year in Prospect is Wood thrush. And Vesper Sparrow was mentioned seen on the Peninsula meadow.
However Greenwood boasted a pretty decent day with Purple Finch, Red breasted Nuthatch and Eastern Bluebird at Valley and Central Avenues, and of course the constant Red Headed Woodpecker on Hemlock Ave, a gallery of colors to note!
Whew! 🐦
