Eastern Wood-Pewee (Contopus virens) (1)
- Reported Oct 13, 2026 07:43 by Forrest Wickman
- Prospect Park, Kings, New York
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&q=40.6602841,-73.9689534&ll=40.6602841,-73.9689534
- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S402004720
- Comments: "Flagged for date: starting to get a little late, and now vastly outnumbered by phoebes, though they’ve only been flagged for a few days I think. This one briefly perched above the new wildflower meadow near the dog beach, and I was a little surprised to see it was a pewee: a clear crest, just a little bit of eyering (more than on phoebes), more upright posture, generally more slender, and with a distinct vest (though not the darker sides of an OSFL) and color on the bill. I saw it long enough to at least start looking for any sign of Western Wood-pewee, because I do have those brainworms this time of year, and saw none. (There really was a lot of color in the bill, and the vest didn’t seem especially dark.) It then disappeared when I raised my camera."
