Meet 7:00 am at Grand Army Plaza park entrance (Stranahan Statue)

 Trip Leader: Sandy Paci

Anytime a rarity surfaces, it makes the day for any birder.  The continuance of the YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER on Breeze Hill, seen mostly in the center oaks of Breeze Hill, with one trip to a Sycamore Maple above the Rustic Arbor, makes the case for a number of birders, including the Brooklyn Bird Club walk today. It stayed present  thru the day, up to 6 pm in the evening.

Adding to the Yellow-throated,a PURPLE MARTIN appeared, this rarity seen perhaps once every two years , being an erratic species  and oftentimes overlooked as usually this species flies over and it takes a keen and experienced eye to identify one. A great bird for the park

Across the Prospect Expressway, specifically in Greenwood Cemetery, Orrin Tilevitz recorded another rarity for the area,a PROTHONOTARY WARBLER in the Crescent Water. We should be seeing one of these in Prospect soon enough.

Hi Rob and Peter,

Rob, thanks for a great walk and fun birds!  There were 21 participants today.

Here is today's list,  - we were all spread out at times, i may have missed something you saw.  Also 2 not-so-great pics of the yellow-throated warbler.  I hope others got better.

B.

Hi Peter,

Here are a few birds from Rob's walk and a few from after.

The one Green Heron has moved his nest a few feet up and more prominently displayed than before.

Jerry and I saw 2 more on both sides of Ambergill bridge.

Cheers, Peter
