The West comes to Prospect

In a fascinating twist,a third western bird vagrant has visited the prospect neighborhood within a month. Following up Prospects Black throated Gray warbler and recently Greenwood Cemetery's Townsends Warbler, we now have a Western Tanager.

Forest Wickman has been on a hot streak ,finding the western tanager this morning just north of the Maryland Monument. This afternoon the bird was found again, with a photo of an adult male bird, all yellow with reddish head. Eleanor Ray took the photo just before 4 pm. I presumed It was near the Tulip tree first found on the northern slope of the Lullwater.

Just a spectacular trend with these western strays. One western bird gets us excited but three unsual spring records is just ridiculous!
