Whippie and cliffie

Excusing the pun nicknames, two hilights marked Sunday Birding. In Greenwood, an Eastern Whipoorwill; in Prospect, a Cliff Swallow.

The Whippoorwill was found sleeping in a birch tree near Sylvan Water. This follows up the Governor's Island bird from Friday so it's peak time for this species, typically first week May.

Over at Prospect Lake, a Cliff Swallow has been showing off along with the Barn and Tree Swallows. Easily picked out due to its pale whitish rump, it stayed mostly in the Lake middle, alighting sometimes on phragmites with the Barns.

The Lake yielded for me some cool sighting s. After having found the Bank Swallow, 26 laughing gulls set up a comedy spot while nearer to me 8 Wood Ducks lines up in singular fashion.( A very colorful duck!)

A late Louisiana Waterthrush continues in Prospects Ravine. Along with this warbler, I found on my late afternoon walk Yellow, Northern Waterthrush and Yellow rumped along the south shore while on the other side Common Yellow throat, Redstarts and BTblue within the Peninsula. It's not big news but I'm trying to catch up with my eastern Warblers after being either away or too busy; but also the cold dreary weather has been an issue.

Check the Prospect or Greenwood checklist s for daily reportings.
