Some interesting species at the feeders this mid afternoon. With ice all around,nothing deterred two rare female PURPLE FINCHES sharing the thistle feeder with Goldfinches. And just below them , several BROWN COWBIRDS picked the ground morsels. This is the first I seen the cowbirds this season.
Meanwhile,though not a native bird, Lynne Hertzog reported at the feeders a European Goldfinch, a pretty bird if worth your fancy to battle the ice and hard crusted snow.
