"Hot" Field 2

Merlin

Prospect's Ballfield #2 at the west end of Long Meadow continues to be the hub for sparrows and a Bluebird today with a roving Merlin taking swipes at everything.

Along the dugouts , especially when I took lunch , the dugout at first base hosted FIELD, VESPER, and a good number of CHIPPING SPARROWS. Both the Field and Vesper were inside the dugout affording great looks of both eye ringed sparrows. I especially love the Field Sparrow with its boyish look. Chippings were all over the place using the fence as cover. A good thing in a way, as a MERLIN suddenly swooped in like a cruise missile along the ground on the outside of the fence, just feet from me. A bold falcon and a great bird to love for its audacity .

The Merlin I was told was doing much ground hovering swipes at birds on the ground. It even buzzed a birder  as it flew right over her. This Merlin used the whole morning to continually make forays around the ballfields.

Quite a number of SONG SPARROWS were present, especially along the woods fence and mound behind Field 7.

A bonus bird this morning while she was looking at the Vesper Sparrow, Paige Linden-Brams reported seeing above field 2 an EASTERN BLUEBIRD.

Enjoy your weekend.
