- Comments: "Flagged: Rare in Brooklyn, and rarely easy to see, though they’re more frequent not far away in Jamaica Bay. First reported by Nicky yesterday, and continuing at the same pin just south of the westernmost of the Three Sisters, briefly on the same log in the open before returning to the phragmites just north of there. Always smaller than I expect them to be: The proportions tend to make me mentally search for something the size of a chicken or a Clapper Rail, when really it’s the size of a robin, or in some ways even smaller. I kept it off the Discord at first at the suggestion of another birder—it would be easy to crowd a little too close to the bird so it never left the reeds—but seems like the cat is out of the bag on eBird, and it has its own island of grass to retreat to whenever it wants, so it could be a worse situation for this bird.
