Dear Mr. Dorosh,  At Green-Wood we are dedicated to serving the needs of the families who have entrusted the care of their loved ones to us, as well the greater New York community. Out of an abundance of caution, Green-Wood has decided to cancel our public programs through April 15, 2020—with one exception. Spring awakenings around the nabe

The date doesn't say so but birds are ahead of the game as the early spring migrants make their way through our neighborhood.

In Greenwood cemetery, an American Woodcock surfaces along Atlantic Ave and Greenbank Path. Several Eastern Phoebes were reported in the cemetery.

Over at Brooklyn Botanic Garden, on Bradley Klein's first Sunday walk, the group witnessed a flyover juvenile Bald Eagle.

In Prospect, my mid-afternoon walk found at least 8 Common Grackle in the Sweetgum trees by the West Island rustic shelter. By the island a pair of Hooded Mergansers appeared.

Our walk "rock star" was a Cooper's Hawk, which landed in a tree on the Brooklyn Heights promenade and was difficult to see, but soon after, treated us to direct overhead views at Pier 5! Other highlights were Northern Flicker, Bufflehead, Yellow-rumped Warbler and Swamp Sparrow!

Bald eagle passing by

At 430 today, Karen O' reported a low fly by over Prospect Lake. It was an adult bird that exited towards the cemetery.

 March thru April is noted for raptor migration ,hence time for everyone to start looking up.

A pine prediction come true

I can't recall what day I made the prediction this past week but on a reply to my friend Orrin i mentioned it might be a good shot for a Pine Warbler this weekend.

Just as Sunday daylight was fading, i read a tweet from Russ A. that he observed a Pine Warbler in Prospect. After getting Russ's photo of a location I recognized the spot showing a huge cut tree stump as the pointy west end of the Concert Grove near the water. This spot is opposite the Teacup Island in the cove that marks the lakeside western most boundary; or the hairpin curve of the path that slices through Breeze hill's south slope.

Cool that I had  a confirmed prediction. Anybody want me to read your palms?
