Season's first PP woodcock

In probably the first AMERICAN WOODCOCK reported in Prospect Park this spring, its a bit of a surprise it took into April to see one.

Natural Resources Crew supervisor Mary Keerbauch flushed a Woodcock atop Lookout Hill, along the south edge of Butterfly Meadow. Within some young pines at the slope edge, Mary surprised the bird as she worked the area. At least that species gets checked out for the year.

Early this morning, I ran into Ed Crowne. Ed mentioned seeing two BLUE GRAY GNATCATCHERS in the northern Lullwater.Along the way, Ed picked up PALM and PINE WARBLERS in the same vicinity. In the Boathouse pond along the Lullwater Bridge, a pair of HOODED MERGANSERS surfaced.
