Hi Peter,

  Our Tuesday "Friends' Walk" went very well! We saw a respectable number of warblers, several raptors and splendid sparrows. The walk was action- packed starting with many ducks fleeing the lake at the moment a Cooper's Hawk arrived- to a Raven flying upside down a few times to delight us!

  A very cordial group as well.

Peter,

Great walk today with birds representing a wide range of fall species for a total of 76, a high count for the season. We had all tree falcons five woodpeckers, green wing teal a selection of warblers as well as scarlet tanager, rose breasted grosbeak, savanna sparrow, raven truly a great variety and a really fun group. Ok one walk to go looking forward.

We had another excellent day, with 70 species overall -- and we only glanced at the north side of the lake before breaking up close to 1 PM. The highlight was by far one of the best raptor flights I've seen within the park: 7 species in total, including 6 peregrines, four of them together over the Long Meadow. This flight line seemed to run over Lookout too, since around noon we had a 10-minute rush with red-tails, ospreys, sharpies, cooper's, kestrel and peregrine. After coming down Lookout, two ravens were riding the thermals above the hill too.

The Dickcissel was still hanging around ballfields 2 and 3, and we also found a Yellow-billed Cuckoo in the Sparrow Bowl. The western edge of the Long Meadow from north of the Picnic House to the ballfields was excellent.

Despite gray skies and NNE winds overnight, the small group that turned out were treated to an outstanding day, continuing the diversity of last week if not the numbers. We ended up with 65 species and a number of notable sightings. 

Terry spotted a Sharp-shinned Hawk whizzing above Lookout early in the morning, and she later picked out a Dickcissel among a big flock of House Sparrows north of the ballfields. Lookout had a great variety of warblers, particularly on the summit, among them Tennessee, Nashville, and Blackburnian. And as we wrapped up the walk around noon, a juvenile Broad-winged Hawk flew low over our heads and circled briefly over the lake.

It's been a great fall!

Stood out from house sparrows for its rusty wing patches, the brightest thing about the bird. Also: malar striping, pale eyebrow, long grayish bill."

Prospect birders recorded 89 species with variety of warblers and sparrows,nighthawk, green heron ,gray cheeked thrush,etc. Despite density dropiff, still some stuff around.
